The Steel Behind Every Wright Tool
It All Begins with the Steel
Every Wright tool starts the same way—with a raw steel bar.
Before there’s a wrench, socket or ratchet, there’s round stock, solid, American-made steel that forms the foundation of everything Wright crafts. At Wright, we use 100 percent domestic steel, sourced from U.S. mills and selected specifically for the performance demands of professional hand tools.
A Steel Chosen for Performance
Wright works closely with steel suppliers to use a specialty alloy grade developed to meet our requirements. The alloy we use is proprietary to Wright, giving us greater control over strength, durability and long-term performance. This allows us to fine-tune the material before it ever reaches our factory floor.
We stock more than 80 different steel sizes, all selected to support the wide range of tools Wright manufactures. Each bar is cut to the precise length required for its specific application, minimizing waste and ensuring consistency from the very first step.
Full Traceability, Full Accountability
Quality doesn’t stop at sourcing; it’s built into the process. Every bundle of steel that arrives at Wright comes with full traceability, allowing us to track where it was melted and produced. That means we can identify the originating mill for every piece of steel used in our tools.
This level of traceability is a critical part of our quality commitment. It ensures consistency and confidence, both for us, and for the professionals who rely on Wright tools every day.
Inspected Before It’s Forged
When steel arrives at our facility, it doesn’t go straight into production. Each shipment is inspected to verify origin, material quality and fulfill our standards. Only steel that meets our requirements moves forward in the process.
Once approved, the steel is heated in our furnaces to precise temperatures, preparing it for forging. This controlled heating process is essential as it sets the stage for shaping the steel into tools that deliver strength, reliability and long service life.
Built Right from the Start
From the raw bar to the finished tool, every step matters. By prioritizing American-made steel, maintaining full traceability and controlling the process from the very beginning, Wright ensures that quality isn’t added later, it’s built in from the start.
Because when a tool is expected to perform under pressure, it must begin with the right material.
